What is a Transit?

The word Transit refers to the current movement of the planets. Unlike one’s horoscope or Kundli which refers to the position of planets at a given time in the past, Transit refers to the current movement of planets.

Transit – the delivery agent of Planets

It is common understanding that good or the bad promises of the horoscope have to fructify in the life of the native.

There are two important ways karma gets triggered in the native’s life.

The running dasha triggers karma as dasha is nothing but the unfolding of karma. But, the promises of the horoscope and the dasha needs someone to deliver the same result to the native. Transit is actually the delivery agent whose role is to deliver the karma phal as depicted in the horoscope and which has been triggered by the dasha.

It also means if planetary promises are good and dasha is good, transits deliver good results. If planetary promise is bad and dasha is also bad, transits deliver bad results. Therefore, transits have nothing to be blamed for.

Types of Planetary Movements

Planets generally have three kinds of movement. First is “Sama” (normal) in this the planet moves at a normal pace. This kind of movement of planets can cause fructification of results. However, things can fructify with patience during this period.

The second type of movement is called “Atichari” in which the planet apparently moves faster. This transit can cause fast fructification of results. Sometimes the result is altogether missed because the planet seems to be in a hurry. People also seem to be in a hurry when planets are “Atichari”.

The third kind of planetary movement is called “Vakri” (Retrograde). When planets are retrograde there may be delays, frustrations and reversals of issues. When we discuss planetary transits, it is always good to see how the planet is moving.

Transit with respect to Lagna, Moon and Sun

It is further important to consider how the lagna, Moon and Sun are affected in the transit.

Lagna represents body, Moon represents mind and Sun represents soul.

Afflictions of lagna, Moon and Sun during the course of transit can cause problems related to body, mind and soul.

Dasha and Transits

The other key parameter to be seen to understand the transit effect is to focus on the running dasha and antardasha. Transits are relevant even from the running dasha and antardasha lords.

For example, a planet transiting from the second house from the antardasha lord can trigger financial gains if the dasha promises financial gains.

Transits from Ascendant or Moon?

Classics like Phal-Deepika give more importance to transits from the Moon. The classic says “Chadresu Gocharesu ” which means transit results should be seen from the Moon.

However, practically speaking dasha results should be seen from many parameters like Sun, Moon, Lagna, dasha, antardasha and pratyantar dasha as well. Even the role of Ashtakavarga is very important to judge transit results.

Jupiter and Saturn Transits

Jupiter and Saturn transits are considered to be very crucial by eminent astrologers like Shri K. N. Rao. He has strongly advocated the importance of double transit of Jupiter and Saturn for fructification of good or bad results. This means houses which are affected by transit of both Jupiter and Saturn either by placement, associations or aspects gives results based on the promises of the horoscope.

For example, if the tenth house is triggered by the aspect or placement of Jupiter and transit together during the course of transit it can help in getting a new job or may indicate career progression.

Jupiter transit from the eighth house from lagna or Moon can cause deprivation of luck or general fortune during the course of its transit.

The period of Sadhe Saati which means Saturn transit from the twelfth house from Moon sign, the Moon sign and the second house from Moon sign period which takes seven and half years can be an eventful period. It can be both depressive as well as an eventful period of one’s life.

If Saturn has good lordship and is in good Avastha this period can be the golden period in the life of the native as well.

Apart from this Saturn transiting from the fourth and tenth house from the Moon can trigger changes with respect to residence as well as career.

Transit of Saturn from the seventh house can trigger obstacles in marital life.

Similarly, Rahu and Ketu transit has to be examined.

Malefic planets generally behave well if they transit from the third, sixth and the eleventh house from lagna or Moon depending on which is stronger.

Summary

Transit therefore holds the key in understanding how the dasha and planetary placement can affect the native. But, understanding how transit will affect will require expertise and in-depth analysis of overall planetary promises and how planets are transiting from key parameters.
