Mercury represents all forms of communication, be it speech, language, writing skills, or logic and analysis.

Considered the most intelligent of all planets, Mercury rules over Gemini and Virgo signs. It governs our mental processes and our reasoning, logic, analysis, and analytics capabilities.

Mercury also represents dexterity in terms of our hands and mind coordination. It also signifies rhythm and thus is often found prominent in the horoscopes of musicians and typists.

Mercury represents the media world and also the computer world. People who work in any kind of communication related professions do need to have a strong Mercury in their birth charts.

In our body parts, Mercury represents skin and an afflicted Mercury can produce allergies and skin disorders.

The Planet Mercury

Remedies for mild affliction of Mercury:

  1. a) The native should worship Lord Ganesha.
  2. b) The native should worship Goddess Durga.
  3. c) The native should worship young girls “Kanya Puja”
  4. d) If the native is facing dental problems, he should wash his teeth using Alum.
  5. e) If the native is facing nerve-related problems he should soak Moong on Tuesday night and offer it to birds on Wednesday morning.
  6. f) For enhancement of business the native should offer Gur, Wheat, and grams in temples.
  7. g) The native should offer flowers in the temple.
  8. h) The native should distribute mangoes to poor people. This will help in career and business matters.
  9. i) The native should offer sweets to young girls (kumari Kanya) every Wednesday and take their blessings.

The idol of Mercury should be made using gold (or in golden colour). Mercury should be perceived duly attired in yellow-coloured clothes, possessing a yellow rosary, having radiance alike Kanika (flowers of Kanera), holding a sword, shield, club, and one hand in blessing posture mounted on a lion.

Mercury (Budh) should be worshipped with the flowers and clothes of the colours of the idol and with fragrance, sticks, Deepa, giving oblations, Dhupa, Guggul, etc. The metal of the idol of the planet and the food dear to him as signified by the planet are donated in charity with full devoutness for the alleviation of the affliction.

Maharishi Parashara said that the Mantra of Mercury should be recited nine thousand times.

The type of wood to be used for Havan of Mercury is “Chirchiri”. The Havana Samagri duly mixed with honey, ghee, curd, or milk is offered as oblations into the sacred fire and amidst chanting of the Mantras 108 or 28 times, the Havana should be performed.

After that Brahmins should be fed. Paddy duly cooked in rice is a must for the remedy of Mercury. After the worship Dakshina should be given as per shraddha of yajmana (person performing the Havan) and satisfaction of Brahmins.

Mantra Jaap

Normally the mantras given below are chanted for reducing the affliction of Mercury. Beej Mantra is preferred because of being a potent mantra.

Mantra for Mercury (Budh): “Om Budhaay Namah”

Beej Mantra for Mercury: “Om Braam Breem Braum Sah Budhaay Namah”

Gemstone

Remedies as per Gemstone:

Emerald: Emerald is the gemstone of Mercury.

The following important points should be noted before wearing the gemstone.

  1. a) The metal to be used for making the ring is silver.
  2. b) It should be worn first on Wednesday, preferably during the period of Sukla Paksha (Waxing Moon).
  3. c) It should be worn from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
  4. d) Emerald should be worn on the little finger.

Mantra for Mercury (Budh): “Om Budhaay Namah”

Beej Mantra for Mercury: “Om Braam Breem Braum Sah Budhaay Namah”

Either of these mantras should be recited at least 108 times before wearing the gemstone.
