Manglik Dosha Check & Remedies – Accurate Mangal Dosha Analysis Online

One of the most commonly used terms while discussing a Marriage proposal is Manglik Dosha ( also known as Kuja – कुज dosh). Many Hindu families consider it one of the key factors when evaluating a potential match for their sons or daughters.

What is Mangalik Dosha?

An ill placed Mars or Mangal in one’s horoscope makes for Mangal Dosha in the horoscope. When the Mangal Dosha is being seen, discussed or evaluated in specific context of marriage or finding a partner then the same is called Mangalik (Manglik) dosha in common parlance.

Mars as a planet signifies valour, courage, aggression, anger/hot temperament, domination traits and efforts. Having a strong Mars means positive traits of these. However, if Mars is ill placed due to its placement in a particular sign or a particular house, the same traits can turn negative especially in the context of social milieu and adjusting with other people. Marriage, as most of us know – is all about long term adjusting.

However, the extent to which the concept of Manglik Dosh has been used in creating a general scare amongst people at large is uncalled for. Having Mars in 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th house of the horoscope gets one labelled as Manglik but our ancient astrology texts also talk about a lot of other astrological factors that cancel the Dosha. This cancellation is known as Manglik Dosh Nivaran (मांगलिक दोष निवारण).

What is Manglik Dosha?

Broadly speaking, the Manglik Dosha gets formed when Mars or Mangal is in any of the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th houses of the horoscope.

To understand the logic, we must understand what the above houses represent in a horoscope.

The First house represents Self, behavorial traits, basic temperament, over all persona etc.

The 4th house represents Home and comforts of home. It also represents peace of Mind.

The 7th house is that of spouse. It reflects on the human quality factor of the spouse.

The 8th house represents inlaws, sexual partners, hidden things ( might refer to affairs here) and also the longevity of the spouse as well as self.

The 12th house is that of bed pleasures amongst other things. It is also indicative of the expenses situation in a person’s life.

If Mars is present in these houses, it is said that it vitiates the above houses and unfavourable results are seen in the above mentioned areas of one’s life. Thus the presence of Manglik Dosha qualifies the native as an avoidable match.

As per a reputed ancient text :

मांगलिक दोष

लग्ने व्यये सुखे वाऽपि सप्तमे वाऽष्टमे कुजे ।शुभदृगयोग हीने च पतिं हन्ति न संशयः

However, we would explain further in this article, that this is too simplistic an understanding of the Manglik Dosha and the real picture is quite different from what is understood by common man.

The difference between Mangal Dosha and Manglik Dosha

Nowadays, most people and even astrologers use the word Mangal Dosh and Mangalik Dosh as one and the same thing. However there is a fine difference between the two.

Mangal Dosh is when your Mars or Mangal is disturbed in your Janam Kundali. Disturbed means पीड़ित. The Mars can either be debilitated, combust, retrograded in an enemy sign, in Rahu and Ketu axis, conjunct with enemy planets like Saturn.  In such cases, Mars is not in a position to give favourable results and this condition of Mars is known as Mangal Dosh.

The Mangal Dosh may be in any of the houses of the horoscope and not in 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th houses. It represents difficulties in multiple areas of life and not necessarily in marriage related areas.

The Mangalik Dosh on other hand is specific to marriage and compatibility with partner. if Mars is present even if it is strong and well placed in 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th and 12th houses of the horoscope, technically the Mangalik Dosh gets formed. However, as mentioned before – there might be multiple other factors that nullify or cancel the Manglik Dosh and it would need a very knowldgable astrologer or a very nuanced software like that of Astropatri to accurately identify if the Mangalik Dosh Nivaran ( मांगलिक दोष निवारण) is happening in the horoscope.

Common beliefs around Mangalik Dosha

Currently a lot of fear and scare has been created around Mangalik Dosh which is not required.

Many people feel that due to Manglik Dosha, the marriage will not work and there will be health and compatibility problems between the partners. The apprehensions go as far as fearing the death of the spouse if Manglik dosh is there in one partner’s horoscope and is not getting cancelled or remedified.

Frankly speaking,  if the planetary combinations that make a person Manglik are say 10 in number, then the planetary combinations that cancel the Manglik dosh are like in 100s! So, Mangalik Dosha and that too of an intensity which might hamper the marriage are not really  that common as they have been made out to be!

Thanks to the grace of Almighty, Astropatri could get guidance of a senior astrologer Vikram Tiwari for creating Manglik Dosha calculator. We did put a lot of cancellation factors in the calculation engine and as a result have seen that roughly 90% of the people whom average astrologers and Pandits classify as Manglik fall under ” Manglik Dosh detected but cancelled” category.

People who believe in astrology should know that in Male charts, Venus represents the wife. In Female charts, Jupiter represents the husband. In Nadi Padhhati (नाड़ी पद्धति ), Mars or मंगल represents the husband for female charts.

Mars ( मंगल ) as the name suggests does however represent सौमंगल्य ( auspiciousness) in general and specifically in a female chart when seen in context of marital bliss and longevity of the marriage but it still doe not remain the only factor to be evaluated while considering matching of Kundalis.

Manglik Dosha getting nullified at 28 years of age?

There is also this commonly held belief that Manglik dosha gets over when one becomes 28. This means that if my horoscope has Manglik Dosha and I marry after I turn 28, the consequences of Manglik Dosha will not be there in my marriage and for my marriage partner.

The logic behind this is that the maturity year for Mars is 28. Mars, the planet responsible for Manglik Dosha, is said to mature at the age of 28. Maturity here means that the aggressive, impulsive, and fiery tendencies of Mars begin to stabilize. As a result, its negative impact on marital harmony reduces significantly.

Another reason cited is that people in general get mature by the time they turn 28. So they become more conscious of their actions and consequences and also do stabilise temperamentally. So the Fire element of Mars gets, say doused in maturity of years and stability of mind. That looks a pretty valid reasoning too.

However, there is another school of thought that while the intensity of the Manglik Dosha might get reduced but it does not get zero totally. Rest of the factors that are required to do a complete and comprehensive match making between two horoscopes remain very much relevant and any consideration of presence or cancellation or nullifying of Manglik Dosha should only be done in complete planetary context and not otherwise.

The concept of Poorn and Aanshik Manglik ( पूर्ण और आंशिक मांगलिक )

Nowadays terms like Purn Mangli (पूर्ण मंगली )/ Ansh Mangli ( अंश मंगली ) are also quite common.

Poorn ( also spelled Purna) Mangli means that the Manglik dosha is complete and unhinged in the horoscope. There are no alleviating factors.

Ansh Mangli means that while Mangalik Dosha is present it is getting reduced or weakened due to some factors like say aspect of a strong Jupiter.

Ansh Mangli reasons are, astrologically speaking – closer to Manglik Dosha cancellation logics. In our software, we have computed only the ” Presence / Absence/ Presence but with Cancellation” outcomes for Manglik dosha checking and calulation purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions on Manglik Dosh

Some of the most frequently asked questions on Manglik Dosh are as follows:

Is Half of the world Manglik?

Yes and No.

Yes if we consider the technical aspect of being considered a Manglik. Since a person having Mars in either of 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, 12th houses is considered Manglik, it is a right assumption that nearly 50% of the population is Manglik.

No because there are multiple cancellation factors in each horoscope that nullifies the Manglik Dosha. Therefore chances are that while the person does have Mars in the houses under consideration, the Dosha is still getting cancelled or nullified.

What is the difference when seen from South Indian system of Astrology?

The South Indian astrologers consider 2nd house Mars also as a factor in classifying someone as Manglik. So the South Indian system of Vedic Astrology says that if Mars is present in 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th houses of birth chart, the person will be labelled as a Manglik.

The 2nd house is that of speech, family, earnings. Therefore logically it is quite right to consider 2nd house placement of Mars as causing some kind of difficulties on Marriage or Match Making front.

Why does Mangalik Dosh affect only Hindus?

Manglik Dosha is not limited to any religion or culture — it can occur in the horoscope of any individual worldwide. The difference is that in Hindu culture, there is a stronger tradition of consulting astrology for marriage compatibility, which is why Manglik Dosha is more widely recognized and discussed.

It is also important to note that Manglik Dosha often gets cancelled or neutralized by many planetary factors (such as placement in certain houses, aspects of benefic planets, or mutual dosha balancing between charts). Therefore, its negative effects are not as common or severe as people sometimes fear — this is true for all charts, regardless of faith or geography.

From a cultural perspective, one reason separation rates in India have historically been lower compared to some other parts of the world may be the widespread practice of horoscope matching before marriage, which acts as a preventive step in many cases.
