Dasha – the word by itself means a state of being or a condition. In Astrology, it refers to an aspect or configuration of planets that influence the happenings in a man’s life. दशा thus refers to a Planetary period.
During its Dasha, the ruling planet also referred to as Dashanath or Lord of the Dasha exerts a heightened influence on the mindset of the native and induces them to work in alignment with its characterstics. The Dasha may have a marked impact on overall state of the existence of the native.
Indian Astrology or Vedic Astrology is Moon based. Full cycle of Moon means 360 degrees. This cycle is further divided into 27 Nakshatras of 13° 20’ degrees. Each Nakshatra has a planetary lord. The time of birth along with date and place allows us to calculate the Nakshatra of birth and the lord of the Nakshatra is the first Dasha lord.
