Rahu is an unpredictable planet. It governs illusions and said to represent the Maya that engulfs us throughout our life.
Rahu is expansive in nature but more so on the plane of material desires. It’s position in a house in the birth chart shows the area where we have lot of potential to to grow. It also indicates that we should endeavour to develop that particular part or aspect of ours.
Illnesses caused by Rahu are difficult to diagnose. It can also cause phobias or obsessive behaviours.
Rahu also signifies occultism. Professions like magicians, illusionists, hypnotists etc are governed by Rahu.
Rahu is considered to be strong in signs Virgo and Aquarius and exalted in Gemini. It is debilitated in Sagittarius.
Astrology is perhaps as old a phenomenon as Human existence itself. Our ancient texts talk about Lord Ram’s horoscope.
The idol of the Rahu should be made using lead. Rahu is perceived with a fierce face and four arms holding a sword, shield, and shola, and the fourth hand is in blessing posture duly mounted on a lion.
Rahu should be worshipped with the flowers and clothes of the colours of the idol and with fragrance, sticks, Deepa, giving oblations, Dhupa, Guggul, etc. The metal of the idol of the planet and the food dear to him as signified by the planet are donated in charity with full devoutness for the alleviation of the affliction.
Maharishi Parashara said that the Mantra of Rahu should be recited eighteen thousand times.
The type of wood to be used for Havan of Rahu is Dooba. The Havana Samagri duly mixed with honey, ghee, curd, or milk is offered as oblations into the sacred fire and amidst chanting of the Mantras 108 or 28 times, the Havana should be performed.
After that Brahmins should be fed. Bhojan Dakshina should be given to Pundits as well as the priests of Maa Kaali temple for Rahu Shanti. After the worship Dakshina should be given as per shraddha of yajmana (person performing the Havan) and satisfaction of Brahmins.
Normally the mantras given below are chanted for reducing the affliction of Rahu. Beej Mantra is preferred because of being a potent mantra.

Astrology may be one of the insights that our ancient Rishi-Munis might have got as part of their self-seeking or Tapasya. We should be thankful to all the people who translated that insight for understanding the common man. We should use Astrology as a tool to improve our lives and also to make the world a better and kinder place to live in.
